Filling the space... (RUM 100%) Lange nicht mehr gespielt. Gelegenheitsaufnahme.
Filling the space II...
Hat was.
Not Completely Anarchistic - This makes some sense...(RUM 100%) This piece started really as a no-music piece, not planned, by some occasion, some mood, doing something...then the first sounds emerged out of nothing, others came close by, associated somehow, it grew, ... then I stopped because I was tired and my eyes were more close than open...the sum of many pieces shows some implicit structure as if....
Zero Music ... Nobody is important(RUM 100%) This was a very dense week, not bad, indeed inspiring, but very dense; nearly no chance to relax. And yesterday night, while I was working I checked some things with my ableton live program.... nothing worked. A complete no-working. Couln't find a cause...And tonight, friday evening, my wife had a meeting, I tried again... and it worked. The outcome was this piece: zero music, no part is in a dominant role, everything is there, somehow, individually, all together. One is wondering what it all could be about....There are 4 tracks with drums. Two are manually played, two I have produced with drum-clips first. The other tracks are synthetic instruments: two bass tracks and two solo voices. afterwards I have only added some reverb and occasionally some acoustic effects.
Kleines Intermezzo(RUM 100%) Nichts Spezielles. Sehr geruhsam.
Noisy Times - Exp.1(RUM 100%) I have started a new series of experiments with different kinds of noise and combinations of these. Noise is the ultimate sound compared to the colors 'black' or 'white' in painting. Whatever is 'different to noise' is a candidate for a 'real sound' or even for 'music'. Thus to make radically systematic experiments with that what possibly can be music means to experiment with noise, noise-similar sounds, noise-different sounds and several kinds of variations. It's something. I did never expect that noise could become so exciting. Almost all the times before noise appeared to me as some 'ugly' event. But it is somehow the 'root' of everything which can be 'nice' and 'beautiful'. This is some analogous case compared with 'quantum reality' as the 'a-causal' ground of everything which we perceive as 'ordered reality'. Thus as 'noise' is the potential for every kind of 'order' is the 'a-causal quantum reality'. There can be no 'order' without 'chaos', without 'noise'. 'Order' appears as 'order' embedded in 'non-order'; otherwise we could not perceive it. This is 'meta-logic', 'meta-science', 'meta-physics'; something which the old greek philosophers already had detected very nicely......
Noise, lesser noise, other noise, the one noise catches all(RUM 100%) Another exercise with noise. Even slight differences change the character of noise, transform it into an event, generate changes, coalition of changes, changes can be 'interpreted' as a talk, as many talks...
Nearly truly anarchistic - Beach and Bar transformed into instruments(RUM 100%) Somehow I was a little bit stuck in my 'anarchistic' experiments. But then, a bit by chance, II had problems with wav-files from my smartphone loaded into ableton, because the sampling parameters did not fit. Then I remembert that the new version ableton life 9 offers you different transformations from autio to midi. I appled this to my wav-files and, suprise, this sounded very 'random', but notwithout some 'flair'.... Therefore I cutted a bit the wave files, converted them with the ableton function and attached different midi instruments to the new midi files. The result you can here. The original sounds have been taken at a beach in Brazil and in a restaurant in brazil with many voices. Thus, now you can hear a midi node structure representing a translation of the original sounds.... I like it... open question: do I like it on account of the sound or on accont of the memories to the nice times there? Probably both is right....
Birds Transformers Symphony(RUM 100%) Starting point have been some recordings of original bird sounds from 2012. These have been 'transformed' by several methods. Thus every sound you hear is based on an original sound- Somehow you hear only 'birds talks'... Finally this resulted in 4 tracks (I started with 5 independent tracks): three are tranformed versions and the fourth is in the original format.
Anarchistic Symphony - A lonely Piano surrounded by many weird Sounds(RUM 100%) While trying another sound library from ableton I compiled more than 14 different sound sources as a context against which I finally have played the keys of a piano. It is another exercise in exloring new sounds, playing a little bit with structures.
Piano plays with a Guitar and vice versa...(RUM 100%) The distance between 'noise' and 'non-noise' is'nt defined. Thus anarchistic music can beginn nearly everywhere. In the actual piece I used different kinds of patterns; most of them before played by myself. Only the piano I have played spontaneously in response to the guitar and then I have 'patternded' part of this playing and repeated afterwards (partially).
View from INM to Frankfurt Sa 15.June 2013 during Phonophon
No.1 Phonophon Concert 15.June 2013
No.2 Phonophon Concert 15.June 2013
No.3 Phonophon Concert 15.June 2013
No.4 Phonophon Concert 15.June 2013
Odysseus at the site of some strange sounding sirenes...(RUM 100%) The sirenes of Homer's Odyssey dwelling in the wilderness of the ocean and attrackting people by their music... I started with the real noise of the ocean, while I was sitting on some mediterranean island and experimented with some sounds interacting with the noisy noise of the ocean, imaging Homer encountering these sounds. I one closes the eyes and one gives space to the sounds it can have some stimulations....
Some Fancy Talk(RUM 100%) it is an open question whether one should qualify this piece as 'anarchistic' music or rather as 'conventional'. There are some 'patterns' in this music which would qualify this music as 'conventional', but these patterns are not very stable and -- moreover -- within these pattern contours the sound events are rather 'random'... last time I am playing more with my guitare because the sound of the evioline is too terrible. It's a pity... but it's good for the guitar....
A Rumbling Whole(RUM 100% - patternd) This piece is a part of a larger experiment, which is not yet finished. At one hand I continued experimenting with rhythm patterns, edited manually, played repetitively automatic. Then I added one melody playing manually a midi-clarinette. So far all tracks without the clarinette have been highly regular. Then I experimented the first time with some algorithms from the Max-4-Live library applying them to tracks 1, 3, and 5. This added a certain amount of randomness with different 'styles'. The whole piece changed it's character remarcably. I will use this piece as starting point for further experiments.
Continuing Journey into cagentArtist's-Sound-Space - Street of the Howling Somethings(RUM 100% - partially patternd) I repeated the general strategy from the last piece with some changes: again three tracks with drum-patterns, afterwards processed by some digital processing adding randomness. Then an eBass played manually processed by some digital soundprocessing, and finally playing a digital piano with digital soundprocessing afterwards. Thus, seen from the end, although the basic sounds were comparably very 'regular', the digital processing with built-in randomness transforms this regularity very strongly. The result is a sound which appears randomly but with some residue of regularity. Perhaps this is a good approach to 'anarchistic' music: starting with regularity and then process regularity as far as possible.
Wild Running - Spontaneity of 2nd Order(RUM 100% - partially patternd) Hey, this was real fun. My controller MPK49 has a mode of playing where by hitting only one key I can trigger 'arpeggio' as well as 'latch'. And this can be treated by the keys as well as by some pads simultaneously. This transforms the normal instrument into some 'new instrument'. This allows some new sounds by only one person. The software defines a certain behavior of this new instrument which is fixed (patterned ...), but your playing is manually, spontaneously. Thus you get a new mixture of patterns and your creative ideas. This brings up a sound which is different from 'normal' (not completely new, clearly not; this is somehow impossible, but 'somehow' new ...). Thus we have here another example of 'anarchistic', somewhere between 'random noise' and 'deterministic pattern' .... my 'heart' is talking by sound events ... :-) using regular events by pushing them around in some unforseable move ...
MB having a tumor in her brain....(RUM 100%) There was an external event hitting my feelings and the detection, how I can connect my handsonic hdp-15 via an midi interface with my ableton software. This led to a first experiment which generated the sounds you can hear here. ... the brain is upset about the strange other cells ....I played one track by hand and used a second and third track to to chain these sounds by different effects. I repeated this by rcording another manual input again chaining the effects by two other tracks. This is amazing: similarity and difference at once.
Live is always working ....(RUM 100%)Another experiment with the handsonic hdp-15 used as source for midi signals embedded in some ableton sound algorithms.
Real Drum Sounds modified and enhanced - Exercise 3(RUM 100%) I continued with my exploring experiments. First playing drums (V-Drums, Roland); these have been recorded by my ableton live program using a midi track with Max4Live effects. Then playing them back through the Roland DrumComputer as Audio to my mixer and recording this as an audio track in another ableton live program. I played the original drum track with two different sound-profiles and effects. Both have been send as audio-files to the other program. There, in the other ableton live program, I have translated the two audio-drum-files with an ableton midi algorithm into two different midi tracks. Every midi track has then been associated with different midi sounds: one with a string orchestra, the other with a brass orchestra. This makes the whole piece...
One Drum Little Symphony No.1(RUM 100%) I played manually a drum track (Roland TDK-30); then I converted this midi file into an audio file, converted this audio file with the ableton algorithm for midi harmonics in two two midi tracks and associated one track with a brass ensemble and the other one with mallets. Then I recorded a manual play of roland handsonic hdp-15 as midi source with an ableton sound und played finally my fender with distortion on the two low strings.
One Drum Little Symphony No.2(RUM 100%) Again I have played manually two different drum tracks (Roland TDK-30); then I converted these midi files individually into two audio files, converted these audio files with the ableton algorithm for midi harmonics in two different midi tracks (each twice) and associated the two tracks for each drum with two different mallets-sounds. Additionally I generated a third copy of the second midi track and associated this one with a string orchestra. Furthermore I took every generated midi track and lengthened the duratrion of all events a lot. The result is what you hear. Primarily it is radically played unplugged, and then several times transformed by some mathematical operations. This is 'computer mediated' music ... RU+CM + M = RUCM2 ...
Keyboard-Drum Little Symphony No.4(RUM 100%). This time I started with a midi keyboard playing a special ableton sound, doubled with some additional effects. Then I played the Roland drums, again doubled and enhanced by some other effects.
Keyboard-Drum voices Little Symphony No.4b(RUM 100%). The same as in the sound 'Keyboard-Drum Little Symphony No.4' before, but I have added some voice enhanced with effects, translated this voice into a midi file coupled to a midi-choir library.
Riding on the Edge of Noise(RUM 100%). Tired and a little bit 'clumsy' by some infection I started with my MP49 Akai Controller playing a weird sound, added another weird sound, felt much better, and then I have played the drums directly, no plan, ... riding on the edge of noise gives some freedom and relaxation ... Bach is different, but nevertheless this are all sound structures, events in time, coming up, happening, talking to each other, correlating spontaneously, having many relations in fact. Sound space never is 'dead' ... it lives in the ear and hering of a brain, a person, a ...
Friday Night Experience Again(RUM 100%). Although this week was very heavy ... I was somehow inspired to start some music playing around 21:00h. First I 're-detected' my electronic violin after more than 12 month, found some sound profile, but recorded then first a live drum track, attached two different 'sound shapes', and then recoded a violin playing, attaching three different sound shapes. Finally I played an epiano with two sound shapes. All this was some fun ... There exists no alternative to the good; if you do some bad things you are fighting against yourself ...
Saturday Morning: ONly Two(RUM 100%). Piano first, then drumming ... very relaxed, the silence is important to prepare the non-silence.
One more experiment with drums: commenting on acting(RUM 100%).Drum77 and Drum78 first, then a piano. Afterwards 'shadowing' all tracks with some digital effects thus creating 3 'ghost-tracks'. The two original drum tracks had no correlation; but somehow they are commenting each other nevertheless; this reveals some randomness but inside the randomness some hidden order.
More surprise than usual(RUM 100%) Manche Entdeckungsreisen sind ungewöhnlicher, überraschender als andere.
From a 'normal' Guitar to a crazy Environment(RUM 100%) Long time I didn't create a new anarchistic (free-style like Jazzz) piece. But to night it happened again. It started with a distorted eGuitar sound, extended to a drum-play by hand associated with a drum-play automatically generated from the guitar sound, then extended by a midi-orchestral sound played manually with a 'glitch-scroller' from my controller board.
The Dancers nearby(RUM 100%) Another variant of the preceeding experiment: Cello first, then double bass, finally a new set of drums. All digital instruments, but manually played.
Heavy Dancing(RUM 100%)This was only pure lust to play and to follow the course of the sounds ... like birds in the heaven ... or crazy dancers on the floor
Heavy Dancing with Voice(RUM 100%) The same as bevore but enhanced with spontaneous talking, crying, laughing, ... making sounds with the mouth...
First Play with new eBass - moving around(RUM 100%) After five years of playng on a very simple ebass I decided to buy a 'real' one. The new one is really very differrt. Here some first tunes from free playing.
Drums-eBass-ePiano Overdrive(RUM 100%) From nothing I have started a recording first playing drums, then added an eBass part, and then finally I have recorded playing ePiano on the push device. Wow. I like it.
eDrill meets ePiano(RUM 100%) I have recorded the sound when they did some repair work in the flat of my neighbour; a very intensive and boring sound of two drills working together. This sound I have ehanced with some ePiano sounds.
Athmospherisches Dröhnen(RUM 100%) Soundreise, Segmente herausgeschnitten, Patter gelooped, dazu live VDrums gespielt; letztere mit einem Max4Live Effekt verfremdet.
The growing nature and the death of people(RUM 100%) This is part of the experiments for the PHILOSOPHY-IN-CONCERT event no.1. This could be a possible background for the words talking about the emergence of life in the universe as well as th emergence of death by the hand of people.
remembering playing by myself ...(RUM 100%) ... sometimes time is flowing by, certain routines seem to fade away .... then it is good to practice again to refresh the memory that these things are possible...
Some new sound files and one old eGuitar(RUM 100%)I started with drum-like sounds played with thepush-Interface from ableton; then some arpeggio-like sounds played with push too; finally a real old eGuitar, which later has been doubled by some effect.
Out of Nothing: Piano and Electric Guitar(RUM 100%) After many, many weeks and after 10 hours of taking exams I played without any preparation this sound track. Sit down, take your favorite meditation posture, close your eyes, and let the sound take you through some space...
Out of Nothing: Piano and Electric Guitar; extended with Drums(RUM 100%) While still having some influenta ... revolting against being ill, I extended the last piece a little bit ... After many, many weeks and after 10 hours of taking exams I played without any preparation this sound track. Sit down, take your favorite meditation posture, close your eyes, and let the sound take you through some space...
Fragment of daily recording: acoustic guitar + automatic quoir + piano(RUM 100%)It seems that guitar as background with some voices can be a good background for piano adventures... .
One more Guitar EXercise: Guitar Symphonic Impression(RUM 100%) I have played an acoustic guitar through a small Vox amplifier with different effects and feeded this in my mixer. Then I translated this track with the ableton digitization function into harmonics, copied this several times, distorted every copy differently and associated each new track with a different interpretation (strings, choir, brass). Some more additional editing. Very interesting effects.
Gedanken ohne Worte(RUM 100%) I started at night with a spontaneous keyboard playing using a piano style interpretation. Then I added a midi-cell playing. The next day I added a choir-interpretation.
Rainy Afternoon(RUM 100%) I planned something, then did something else, and finally I have recorded some crazy piece.... yes it was a rainy afternoon, a free day
Drumexperience in outer space(RUM 100%) After many, many weeks again some drum playing; enhaced with a midi instrument von ableton, then midi translations from the drums, edited with deletions and different sound surfaces.
(RUM 100%) One drum in four dimensions, some gimmicks attached to it(RUM 100%) When I make my drum exercises (since last week) I am recording. After some exercises I have several tracks. Today I hads four tracks. I have synchronized these tracks and have activated some effects. The result is what you hear.
From Noise To Voice(RUM 70%) This is a simple sound experiment associated with a public speech, which I gave in Essen 2017. It shall demonstrate the development of the noisy universe to the unbelievable wonder of the human voice, here the original voices of the choir of the Väckelsång-church (singing independently from the liturgy). I had the chance to record an ordinary rehearse of the choir in August 2017. I used a small piece of the recording as the endpoint of the sound experiment. It starts wih some noisy sound (produced with ableton live), and then changes into sounds between noise and harmonics. It was a wonderful evening sitting there and listening to the choir singing and loughing a lot ... Thanks to the choir that I could be there ....
Without Structure Is No Life(RUM 80%) To overcome noise one needs structure(s). There is a relationsship between the complexity of structures and the complexity of the source. Without technology the only and main souce is homo sapiens. Thus searching for the some space 'beyond structure' is equivakent to minimize live. This represents -- from the point of life -- only a limited sense. Thus the challenge is not to get rid of structure (this is mostly realized with death) but to find those structures, which maximize life!
Friday Afternoon Sounds Meeting Together, Free Playing(RUM 100%) As often in the last time I start with playing drums, then I play something different to the drums, then I make some digital transformations and arrangements, only to experience how it sounds. Learning by doing. Searchin in the Un-Known...
More than noise - but what?(RUM 100%) Starting with two different drum-sets, then two diferent sounds with the serum-synthesizer; an incredible piece of software...
More beyond noise. Howfar? Which distance?(RUM 100%) Starting with an ePiano, doubled by some electronic sound, then eCello and real analog Drums with a sound skin from african drums.
After a long time - one more new piece of anarchistic music has been created(RUM 100%) Because my drums haven't been available I used some drum-library from ableton, attached to this a manual eBass, converted then the ebass voice into an automatized midi-File which has been attached to the grand-piano sound.
