It lasted about 3.8 Billion. years until we could see on the planet earth complex life forms like the homo sapiens. During this time dramatical changes of the shapes of the biological life happened. As a single individual person one is mostly living with the feeling of a 'persistence of the presence', of some 'constancy', but even the own body changes during the personal life remarkably. This permanent change is the main characteristic of the biological life. Who thinks that he can fix the 'essence of life' with some constant properties and shapes, has probably not yet understood too much of that, what is important about life....

Curriculum Vitae

(German Version)

(Last change: April-1, 2017)

Since April-1, 2017

Since April-1, 2017 I am completely retired, being now a Professor Emeritus. The last three years could be seen as a 'preparation' for the retirement. In these years I was free from all administrative duties and could focus only on teaching and research with a reduced teaching load. While being a Professor emeritus now I will give 1-2 classes per semester in selected topics (for more detailed information please see my official university homepage). Other planned topics are (i) my Philosophy-Science Blog, enhanced with additional lectures, workshops, as well as some computer experiments, then (ii) the continuation of a research project with the CSIR in South-Africa together with the University of Johannesburg. Part of this project is an international book with the working title 'Systems Engineering as a Science'; finally (iii) I will transfer the Emerging-Mind Project into the new project Earth-2117. All these three projects are highly interconnected. Besides the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences I will have my main working place in the INM Frankfurt.

Since March 2014

Since March 2014 I am officially a pensioner. But I took the chance to make use of the possibility to prolongate my work at the university three times one year (until March 2017) (but from April 2015 onwards I reduced to to 50%). This gain in 'free time' allowed me to prepare and to start a new open science project called Emerging-Mind Project (EMP). The main theme is the possible future of humans and intelligent machines (in theory and practice). There was a small article about the opening in one of the leading newspapers ( How artificial intelligence conquers the world). Since then I am giving more public lectures and, perhaps, I can finally write some books now.... :-) The other point is that it is really fun to run now some interesting projects in the university ( one of the topics is 'New Approaches to Collaborative Distance Learning').

March 2013

No later than during the time of two invited talks by the Technical University Unicamp (Campinas, Brazil) the ideas became clear to start a long-term project dedicated to the relationship between society, human kind, and intelligent technologies. The project should be completely public and in the long run truly international. Already at this time this project has been labeled as 'Emerging-Mind Project'.

March 2013

Experiences with my blog 'cognitiveagent.org': In the beginning I had no clear idea what this blog should be good for, but then the writing itself gained some dynamics and somehow catches me to write more and more. It clarified my thinking. In the beginning questions of philosophy, especially of epistemology and the relationship to science, have been prominent. Then also other questions popped up, e.g. questions around the topic 'emergence of life'. My public talk in the philosophical society of Bremerhaven January 2012 highlights a kind of a milestone: a general clarification of the relationship between philosophy and science. This topic continued to be discussed during the following months, but became then superposed by the topic of the emergence of life in the universe. My public talks in November 2012 and February 2013 outline here a first synthesis. At the same time two other 'unifications'/ 'synthesis' became clear: (i) my divers experiences with the arts during my membership of the Institute for New Media (Frankfurt) could be integrated in a now possible view of philosophy, the sciences, and the arts as stimulating each other and (ii) the now possible open relationship between philosophy, sciences, and arts with regard to religion. All the rich experiences from my 22 years being an active member of the Jesuits I could use to outline this new view. The fundamental concept of the Jesuit spirituality can seamlessly be integrated (and not only this kind of spirituality). Thus, it seems, that the outline of a new world view is there. This shows that the world of the future will be rather different from the world of today. There is no guarantee that we will make it. But the way until today we have already mastered, not only by us alone, because ... The vision of the 'Emerging Mind Project (EMP)' (see elsewhere in this text) would never been written without the writing of my blog. Likewise one should not underestimate the effect of all these musical experiments (art!). Art is not luxury, art is supporting life fundamentally. I am excited how this process will continue. Real, innovative processes are always leading to some 'unknown' area.... that's why they are in some sense difficult.

March 2013

After exploring the possibility to launch own music on the international music sites (with the aid of Reverb Nation) I decided to unify my different 'branches' as cagentArtist on one official site for 'cagentArtist'. Thus, the experiment is going on ...(Postscript May 2015: indeed, it was quite simple to introduce the own music recordings into the international music channels. But to use possible revenues from the selling of your music you had to start an US-american company. Besides this reverb nation takes real money from you, also with some mechanisms which are not very transparent for the user. Finally I have stopped this experiment again. Instead I have opened up a small PLAYLIST 1 on soundcloud. This is a little window in a huge set of meanwhile more than 400 sound experiments.)

Summer 2012

I have participated in the foundation of the new Frankfurter Technologiezentrum Medien (FTZM) of the University of Applied Sciences Frankfurt.

April 2012

In the technology review (heise publisher) appears a feature about me Der Grenzgänger written by Gregor Honsel.

February 2012

Triggered by my musical experiments (see below) I made also some experiments with music videos, using pictures and music on my own. For this I had to create a 'label'. I took my pseudonym from the blog 'cagent' and combined it with 'artist' to 'cagentArtist'. This started my music video channel on YouTube.

Since autumn 2008/summer 2009

The interdsciplinary Master Program BaSys (Barrier Free Systems) developed quite well. We could improve the interdisciplinary Charakter as well as the orientation towards an application driven research. The collaboration with the university of Pretoria (L.Erasmus), the technical university of Campinas (R.Gudwin) as well as with the Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University Frankfurt (A.Mehler) could be intensified and shows first synergy effects. Cooperations with divers companies and institutions have grown. Based on computer science and different scientific disciplins I have further developed a kind of a new 'holistic' view of all sciences including philosophy and arts as well. (If you can read German then see my blog at cognitiveagent.org). Triggered by this blog I have more and more public talks, sometimes rather 'politically not correct'; it is not important to keep a traditional order 'as such', but to enable people to reckognice the truth of their own life...

Summer 2009

Elected by the senat of the university and then appointed by the president as deputy ombudsman for cases of possible misusage of the principles of true scientific research.

Frühjahr 2009

Contrary to our expectations we had a strong success with a first small modeling and simulation project (by using the OKSIMO open source software) (see Project description) for the city Rödermark. The experts from the administration as well as the political council responded very positively. They invited us to continue with a larger project, eventually together with oder neighbouring cities. (see Press release).

Autumn 2008/Spring 2009

While the interdisciplinary gestureRob project ist not working well --by several reasons-- we find an astonishing vivid development in the context of the topic humanlike intelligence as part of the overall AAL paradigm intended for smart homes of the future (especially for elderly people or/and people who need dayly assistance). Finally wie reorganize our complete research program (see: BaSys-FH AAL-Lab).

February 2008

While my 60ties birthday was already glooming up at the horizon I got the idea to start -- after about 30 years of doing nothing -- again with playing some music. This very spontaneous decision was the beginning of a muscial experiment, which started growing, and growing, and .... (the texts are partly German, partly English)..

During summer 2007

On account of trade mark rights we are looking for a new name for the PlanetEarthSimulator-Project OKSIMO (Open Knowledge MOdeling SImulation) .At this time has the project a stable team formed by Volker Lerch, Bernhard Reinsch, Eero Wolf, Marco Dreier, Jens Heise und myself. More supporting persons are close nearby (e.g. Claudia Burkhardt, Herbert Brunner).

12.August 2007

At this time some of my friends have been active members of the local chapter of the political party Bündnis90/die Grünen in the city of Schöneck. As a philosopher and scientist I feel obliged to serve the 'whole' society, even all the nations on the planet, but in this real world -- especially in a democracy -- one has also some duty to engage in a real political manner to serve the society. This has to be done in some real network of people who want to share their ideas to live together in a common world. On account of my intensive engagements outside of the city of Schoeneck I was not able to engage actively, but I could support the party at least by a real membership. This was strongly encouraged by the fact that the political manifest of 2002 The Future is Green had a strong affinity with my basic convictions. (Comment: about 5 years later I realized that between my personal philosophical-scientific world view and this political manifest existed a much closer relationship than I understood it at that time).

January 2007

At that time I had an unused domain 'www.cognitiveagent.org'. I started to use this site for first experiments in writing a blog. As a philosopher (-:)) I started with some basic question Why to write at all? (Warum überhaupt schreiben?). My name as blogger became 'cagent', somehow a tribute to the name of the domain.

Since Sept-1, 2004

Appointement to a professorship (tenure) at the University of Applied Sciences (Frankfurt am Main, Germany) for Computer Science with special interests in Knowlege Representation and Dynamic Modeling of Knowledge.
