Knowledge and Body

Figure 3.4: The knowledge is embedded in a Body as a Processing Unit. This induces many concrete Constraints

As the preceding analysis reveals any kind of behavior is routed in some kind of a knowledge as an enabling structure. The available knowledge interprets the perceptions and generates those knowledge states which guide are responses.

Because the knowledge is embedded in the body as the primary processing unit the knowledge flow will be constraint by the bodily conditions of available energy, of available functionality, and of available capacities. Inherent in this we will find timely structures limiting reaction times.

But whereas we can observe behavior overtly and directly we can not observe knowledge directly; knowledge is always a hypothetical theoretical construction, a model, a theory which represents in a systematic way our assumptions about possible internal states from which we assume that they are 'responsible' for the observable behavior under the influence of those events from which we assume that they are perception-triggering events.

Traditionally it was the science of Psychology which tried to construct behavior-based models about the assumed internal parameters of a behaving system. Nowadays there is an additional source called Neuroscience. This new source of data can support Psychology but can not replace it.3.2
