HMI within System Engineering

The task of HMI during the systems engineering process is mainly the support of the elaboration of the system interface $ INTF_{I}$ in interaction with the user $ U$, the environment $ E$ as well as the intended task set $ \Gamma$. Because the final system is during this phase either not yet available or only given as first partial prototypes the HMI team has to experiment with a lot of artificial situations where it tries to deal with properties of the intended system 'as if' the final system would be at hand. This includes several forms of testing the system interface $ INTF_{I}$ for usability and/ or correctness. Such tests are only possible as long as a sufficient model of the intended behavior is at hand.
