Evaluation View - Observation

From the point of view of evaluation the HMI-Expert is acting as an observer (Obs) who is  observing  the H-UI-M-Relationsship as an object. Based on his observations the observer can make some judgements with regard to some properties which the observer considers to be inherent in the observed object and  which he/she thinks to be relevant for the problem under investigation. To make these judgements the observer has to use some kind of language (L), whichis  in the common case the natural  language (NL).

In (Lauesen, 2005:6ff) we find a list of possible properties, which are judged to be relevant in the context of HMI-Evaluations:

  1. Correctness (few errors)

  2. availability (e.g. access 23.5 hours a day)

  3. performance (e.g. system responds within 10 miliseconds)

  4. security (e.g. preventing hacker attacks)

  5. safety (e.g. supressing damaging human life)

  6. functionality (e.g. certain list of functions fulfilled)

  7. ease of learning (e.g. simple to learn)

  8. maintainability (e.g. easy to maintain)

  9. nice to use (e.g. consumer likes to possess this product)

  10. task efficiency (e.g. to solve a task fast)

  11. ease of remembering (e.g. quick learning because of good rembering)

  12. understandability (e.g. good insight into factors and their relationships)

  13. subjective satisfaction (e.g. 'feeling good')
